What's Happening to Scrapbook U?

After careful thought and consideration, I have decided NOT to renew my lease. Our lease expires on October 31st. What does this mean for Scrapbook U and our customers? While I had a plan formulated regarding options available for a person and or persons to possibly purchase the equipment, fixtures, mailing list etc, I have not finalized anything at this point.

I've always said that when it's time for me to go, I would be totally honest with my staff, teachers and customers. While I have many reasons for not renewing the lease, it really comes down to a few basic ones. First of all, I just really want to have the freedom to travel, spend time with my family, etc. As you may know, Brittany leaves for college soon, and I want to be able to visit at a moments notice. Talon begins a new school, for which I will be commuting with him to San Jose daily. Mark always has some crazy adventure for which, up until now, I have not been able to go on due to the store. I look forward to traveling with my mother on a cruise to Alaska next summer. Plus, I want to get back to my passion: scrapbooking! After suffering two deaths of people close to us this year, it really puts things into perspective. It is hard to believe that nearly 8 and 1/2 years have passed since we opened our doors. No reasons would be complete without mentioning the economy! Last year was difficult, however, this year has rebounded very well. I truly believe that Fremont and the surrounding area can support a scrapbook store!

Effective immediately: We will no longer sell gift certificates. Please redeem all of your gift certificates as soon as possible. While we will accept them until close of business sometime in late October, 2010, I want you to be able to get your favorite products, so dig them out of those drawers! Also, all sales are now final. I will work with manufacturers to take care of defective merchandise, but it can not be returned to Scrapbook U.

Shipments of new products: We will continue to receive shipments of new CHA products. Last week we brought in 4 new lines, and this week will be no exception. We will continue to stock adhesives, cardstock etc so that our teachers can teach their great classes. I have met with my staff and teachers regarding the store. I honestly can't thank them enough for their support. Each one has contributed to our amazing success. We have a working September and October calendar going, with loads of classes coming up. We have scheduled lots of Friday night crops for August and September. We expect these to be very popular, so call us asap to reserve your space. I don't as yet have a date for when I will begin to clearance out remaining inventory, but will let you know when it has been scheduled.

I cherish the many friendships that I've developed through the years of owning the store and hope that you also have many fond memories of Scrapbook U.
