Mini Shadowbox Embellishments

Mini Shadowbox EmbellishmentsYou’ll play with fabric, glitter, crystals, fragments, lace, wire, beads, buttons, charms, foil tape, leafing and other tidbits to design and create three of your own embellishments to dangle from a minibook, attach to a card, or tag, or just display in your art room for inspiration. The samples shown are finished in glitter, but we will also use leafing and foil tape as a finish. (Note: picture frame is for display purposes only).

In addition to your class kit, please bring both ½" and 1/8" wide double-sided red tape and a scoring tool. If you own a scor-it or scor-pal, please bring it to class.

Faux Beeswax Collage

Faux Beeswax CollageDo you love the look of Beeswax but really don’t want to bother with the mess and heat of having to melt the beeswax? If so this is the class for you. Come learn the recipe from Chris Cozen’s book Altered Surfaces for making “faux” beeswax. We will pair this recipe with a small collage and voila!-a Faux Beeswax Collage. For this class please bring your favorite paintbrushes and scissors and any personal images you might want to use in your collage. Please make sure that any image you might bring is a black and white or color toner copy and not an inkjet copy (the gel medium will make the inkjet copy smear). I will bring plenty of images as well.

Spring Has Sprung Vintage Cards

Prima Cards

Prima Cards

It's a Party

It's a Party

This perpetual hat and box is just right for a group of girlfriends as they take turns celebrating birthdays. The explosion box has pockets inside, enough for eight friends to each tuck in a gift coupon, IOU, photo or heartfelt card. When the festivities are over, put it away until the next birthday and fill the pockets all over again. The festive hat leaves no doubt that it’s a party!! As a bonus the hat initial and gift tag can be attached with a magnet [so it can be changed out for each celebrant].

Pearls, flowers, bling, ribbon and glitter – what more could a birthday girl ask for? Perfect for little girls too!

You will need: your basic kit which should include strong, fast drying adhesive [Ultimate], bone folder, long and short scissors, pencil and eraser. You’ll also need Cotton Candy and Diamond [or Crystal] Stickles. If you have a Score It board and ¾” circle punch please bring them to class.

Hat papers may vary slightly from sample. Inner box pockets will vary and ribbon and trim for them will be added in class.

Bonus: each student will receive a template for the box and hat.

Altered Books #2 - Windows and Doors

In this second altered book class we will experiment with creating windows and doors. Windows and doors are a dramatic way to present you theme. They are interactive and draw the viewer’s eye deeper into the book. So come and add a little mystery and magic to you altered book by learning to add windows and doors. Kit items to bring: Paintbrushes, Scissors, Gel Medium, Gesso, Cutting mat and Xacto knife.

The Bracket Book

The Bracket Book

Brackets [or parentheses] are typically used to add clarity to a sentence, to explain or call attention to that which is implied but unstated. That’s just what this set of brackets does. Stuff it with your thoughts, photos, magazine clippings, favorite book titles, song lyrics, found treasures from a walk, inspirational quotes, paper swatches or show tickets – things that may seem insignificant to others but have great meaning for you. Papers from MME Lush and Tres Jolie play happily with Teresa Collins, Webster’s Pages and TCP. Add a few stamps, plenty of pockets, a snippet of lace, some machine stitching and a knob from 7g and you’ve got the ideal repository for your treasured odds and ends - perfectly parenthetical!

Please bring your tool kit and if you have ‘em a Bind-it-all and Score it! You will need a fast drying, wet glue [like Ultimate] for this project.
